Things to do in San Francisco with Kids

San Francisco is a city full of wonder and beauty as well as an excellent place for kids! It is vibrant with culture, diverse with food choices, and full of fun things to do with children. Here are my favorite things to do with kids in SF:

Parks and Playgrounds:

Dolores Park Playground – This playground located in the center of San Francisco’s Mission, is not your typical playground. Recently remodeled, this playground features an exciting 45 foot super slide, as well as a shipwrecked boat to climb in, on, and all over.

Golden Gate Park Children’s Playground – Located in the heart of Golden Gate Park, this playground features a climbing wall shaped like waves which offers textured exploration to its’ visitors. This playground also features the historic concrete slide, where kids and adults alike can race down the giant slide on a piece of cardboard. There are also patches of grass that surround the playground for visitors to settle into, read a book, and watch the kids from afar.

Chrissy Fields / Golden Gate Bridge – A gorgeous park located in the Marina, with one of the most breathtaking views of the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, offers huge grass fields covered in soccer games, families picnicking, and dogs running in and out of the water.

California Academy Of Sciences – An amazing museum that truly has it all. Inside the Academy of Sciences, you will find an aquarium, complete with an albino alligator, as well as a planetarium, a rainforest, and a living roof! This is an absolute must see when in San Francisco!

Creativity Museum – The Children’s Creativity Museum goes beyond the conventional environment of play by inspiring kids to imagine, create and share in their multimedia environment. The museum’s programs and exhibits, such as the Community Lab and the Imagination Lab are designed to spark the imagination and build creative confidence.

Exploratorium – The Exploratorium isn’t just a museum; it’s an ongoing exploration of science, art and human perception. The Exploratorium is an eye-opening, playful place to explore how the world works.

Kid Friendly Eats:

Bi Rite Ice Cream – Some of the most delicious ice cream in the world, need I say more?

Mission Pies – A warm and welcoming family-friendly environment that has some of the best pie I have ever had. There are also board games available for you to play while you enjoy their delicious creations.

Tourist Attractions:

Fisherman’s Wharf – Fisherman’s Wharf is super touristy, but there’s a reason visitors flock to this historic area. Pier 39 offers lots of amazing places to eat, including the famous bread factory Boudin. It also holds many cute stores for souvenirs, but also great views, a chance to see sea lions wallowing in the sun and water, a carousel, the Aquarium of the Bay and that’s just the beginning.
